The current State Budget for public education in Wisconsin is unsustainable for Wisconsin schools. In 2015 AFE and Advocates all over the state leapt to action register our concerns about big cuts. Thanks to the support of community members we were successful in restoring $150 per pupil cuts.
The 2015-17 State budget wasn’t great for Wisconsin Public Schools. The diligent work of advocacy group all over the state helped to restore lost funding but districts are being forced to go to referendum for basic expenses and rural areas are really feeling the pinch. The next budget cycle will start soon. AFE will continue to monitor the progress of the legislature as it heats up.
We believe that Education Builds Communities and funding the education of the next generation should be a top priority of the state. As the next budget cycle starts AFE will remain vigilant.
